8th-7th century BC. A bronze brooch with crescent body, curved catch to one arm and remains of coiled spring to the other; domed studs attached to the arch through prepared holes. Cf. Hattatt, R. Iron Age and Roman Brooches, Oxford, 1985, item 706. 34.7 grams, 61mm (2 1/4"). Ex an important Dutch collection; acquired on the European art market in the 1970s.
