Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Jiaqing famille verte dragon motif porcelain plates. The porcelain potted in shallow vessel form, thick and large, slight deep, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, with a straight open lip, raised with round shallow draft, slight concave base. All reserved in hand painting ornamentations, rendered in clean white under glazed ground color which contrast against the famille verte design color. Meaning the green family. Over glaze enamel decoration on exp ort and Imperial porcelain. Developed during the Ming dynasty from multicolored decorations with translucent enamels, applied during secondary firing/s on glazed porcelain. By the end of the 16th century formalized into Wanli wucai - Wanli five color enamels - then further into Kangxi wucai and what now by mostly western scholars is recognized by its French name Famille Verte. The Exterior and the inner center medallion adorned with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds, flaming ruyi, above thrashing Li-shui waves in a deep green color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames, banded and enclosed with single thick green ring lines. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on under base, a six under glazed red seal script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, JiaQing Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
