Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Xuande blue and white dragon motif porcelain plate. The porcelain potted in shallow vessel form, thick and large, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, with a straight open lip, raised with round shallow draft, slight concave base. All reserved in hand painting ornamentations, rendered in clean white under glazed ground color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The center interior medallion adorned with five claws imperial dragon soaring amidst flames and vapors, with face and upper right appendage outstretched toward the heavens. Vigorous dragons chasing flaming pearl amidst flames against cobalt blue color scrolling cumulus clouds. The backdrop depicts swirling wind and fire painted atop a beautiful white under glaze. The outer rim decorated with various flowers blooms interspersed fresh foliage. Each section banded and enclosed with double fine rings. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks.
