FINEST, Box Chinese carved jade plaque inlaid Zitan lidded box. The highly valued Zitan hardwood is carved into a rectangular shaped body. The entirety is encased in amazing relief carving which gives this box a captivating appearance. An open-works carved celadon jade plaque embellished on the top cover, smooth to the touch with a milk-white coloration depicted finely carved dragon borne over intertwining branches and vines amidst dense foliate. Inner flange circumscribed around the containers lip allows for cover fitting perfectly along the scalloped edges on the box. The exterior side having butterflies with flower blooms and scrolling rococo foliate, over dense geometrical motif diaper. Banded key fret patterned ribbon on both lips. The Zitan Box conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese Zitan hardwood wares, with the finest material, the nephrite jade, the carving, and the shape. Zitan is an extremely dense wood which sinks in water. It is a member of the rosewood family and is botanically classified in the Pterocarpus genus.
