A hand-forged iron axehead with D-section socket, narrow neck, broad blade with curved edge; eight shallow stamped pellets to the rear of the blade and maker's mark of a figure carrying a large spear point-downwards. 215 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). From an important private family collection of arms and armour; acquired on the European art market in the 1980s, and thence by descent.
