In close-up view the Christ taken down from the cross, sitting on a beige stone slab, probably as a reference to the grave; he is dressed only in a loincloth, with stigmata and the wound on his chest against a dark background. He is lovingly embraced by Mary in a red robe and dark blue cloak. Standing behind her is Johannes. Jesus' left arm is carefully held by Mary Magdalene. Behind her in red robe and turban is Nicodemus, who, according to tradition, is said to have used powerful pliers to pull the nail out of Christ's hand. Retouching. (1220371) (2) (18)
