In front of an old stone building a greengrocer in a wheelbarrow presents his vegetables in various baskets and lying on the floor, sitting next to him his pipe smoking woman. The vegetables are presented in an almost still life-like manner, including cauliflower, artichokes, onions, white and red cabbage and a bunch of red carrots. An elegant young woman standing in front of him - in a long red dress with a long black scarf over her head - points to the vegetables she has chosen and hands her maid money to pay for the goods. A boy standing behind her in partly torn clothing has seized her golden watch and tries to steal it from her with his knife. In the background a wagon with a man and a woman unloading more goods. Over a wooden fence, on the left, the view goes to a mountainous landscape under a high, sunlit, cloudy, light blue sky. Painting in the typical manner of the artist, whereby the vegetables are precisely reproduced. (12221122) (18)
