Italienischer Maler des 18. Jahrhunderts
LANDSCAPE WITH CHRISTIC NABBES AND CRUISTIUM
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
93 x 70 cm.
In gilded decorative frame.
In front of a brown wall with a column the young Christ Boy with his left foot standing on a sphere. He is dressed only with a blue cape. With his left hand he holds a body-sized wooden cross, to which he points with the outstretched index finger of his right hand. Behind and around the sphere lying on the ground a snake is winding, holding in its mouth a bright red apple with two leaves. He is portrayed as the ruler of the world, for which the sphere at his feet stands, and as the Redeemer, to which the point of the finger points to the cross and the fight against evil, represented by the snake that seduced Adam and Eve in Paradise with an apple. In the background on the right a wide mountainous landscape with houses under a high blue sky with cloud formations. Particularly noteworthy is the lighting falling from the top left, which highlights the face and contours of Christ's body. Rest., minor retouchings. (1220811) (2) (18)
