Baroness Alice de Rothschild (1847-1922) was famous for her collection of more than 450 wooden and metal pipes. She also exhibited her collection of pipes with the most unusual and artistically carved and shaped pipes, some with grotesquely shaped faces. The offered pipe bowl is almost identical with one from her collection: the finely carved face of a king with a broad nose, dark eyes and slightly opened mouth with visible bright teeth. In the ears silver jewellery. The head with inlaid work, also in red, green and yellow stones. On the head a silver crown, which can be opened by a hinge.
