View over a fortified bank, with some staffage figures with light turban, to the calmly flowing Nile, on which an occupied boat just moors at the bank. In the background a large gate leading into a city, with domed buildings and a minaret towering into the sky. Also the remains of the ancient Egyptian temple complex of Kom Ombo, flanked by some tall palm trees. Atmospheric painting in the warm light of the setting sun, which bathes the high horizon in a soft light ranging from purple to turquoise. (1222097) (18)
