Comment: Making its debut in 2006, reference 5980 is presented on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Nautilus designed by Gerald Genta in 1976. A vital complication of a sports watch, this reference is equipped with a chronograph function and the famous "Bull's eye" auxiliary dial. First seen on the 5960, this design captured the hearts of collectors by highlighting the hours on the inside of the dial and the minutes on the outer ring. Reference 5980 is equipped with the Patek Philippe chronograph caliber 28-520 entirely manufactured in-house. This caliber was originally created for the 5960, Patek Philippe's first self-winding chronograph with an annual calendar, and was later adjusted to reference 5980 without date display. This reference has become a sought-after collector's item.
