Henry Pierce Bone (1779-1855) after Jacob Adriaensz. Backer (Dutch 1608-1651). Portrait miniature of a boy in a feathered cap. Signed, dated and inscribed on the counter-enamel in red paint Inscribed on the r***rse Prince of Orange./ Painted by Henry Pierce Bone/ after Frank Hals, May 1853. Enamel on copper, oval, in a giltwood frame with scroll and foliate decoration. 105 x 75mm. . Although the inscription on the r***rse identifies the sitter as William II, Prince of Orange (1626-1650), the painting is based on a work of an unknown boy by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer, today in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, (inv. no. 2483).. .
