Enl/Painter to Her Majesty/Prince Albert. &c/Sept 1850. Enamel on copper, oval, in a gilt-metal frame. 54 x 44mm. . The identification of the sitter as Anne of Cl***s comes from an inscription on the original painting at Althorp, Northamptonshire, then thought to have been painted by Bernard van Orley (c.1488-1541/2). Henry Pierce Bone painted another version of this work for Queen Victoria in 1843 (Royal Collection no. RCIN 421709).
