A German wooden sculpture of St Michael from the workshop of Lorenz Luidl, Landsberg, 2nd half of the 17th century The fully sculptured figure carved in lime wood with the original, partially gilt paintwork. The archangel is depicted standing in extreme contraposto, his cloak billowing dramatically. His right hand placed on his breast in benediction, his left hand holding a staff with a cross. The vanquished Lucifer lying at his feet. On an octagonal plinth. Height 73 cm. Condition: II + Condition Report: Excellent overall condition, the paintwork almost perfectly preserved. Several small defects on the edges. Satan's ear broken at the root. The staff broken and restored above the sphere.
