「大明宣德年制」楷书款铜洒金关于此炉的来历说法多样，或是仿自宋瓷的款式，或是仿自《绍兴鉴古图》。其用途也是说法不一。戟本身就是一种兵器，所谓执干戈以卫邦国，宣德皇帝赏赐给刑部尚书之用，有“执戟护法，安邦定国”之意。因此无论是祭祀门神，还是赏给刑部尚书，都是合乎情理的。此炉口沿外撇，束颈，鼓腹下收至足。腹部铸戟式双耳，耳孔巧为圆形。铜炉周身和底部均洒金，金片璀璨，采用“渗金法”，金片如雨点雪片，大小相间，飘然分落。铜炉轮廓线柔美流畅，美观大方，可谓精工美形。此炉皮色褐色，洒金亮丽光耀，炉身为簋式，又可称“戟耳簋式炉”，是传世香炉中的一种样式。香炉铜质甚好，细润精密，掂之沉重，比例协调，肥瘦适宜，洒金更添炉之贵重。炉底「大明宣德年制」楷书款，字体方正有力，更显庄重。
