自明中晚期起，剔彩漆器即颇为流行，尤多见工精艺妙的精品。明代《髹饰录》言：﹃剔彩，一名雕彩漆，有重色雕漆，有堆色雕漆。如红花、绿叶、紫枝、黄果、彩石、黑石、轻重、雷文之类，绚艳悦目。此品即可为其例证。﹄此件剔彩香盒造型庄正，盘心黑面雕回首龙纹，双眼圆瞪，毛发飞扬，肢体卷曲，腾飞于福山寿海之上，盘缘内壁刻折枝牡丹纹间隔八宝。盘外壁如意纹。盘底染黑漆，漆黑光亮。此式剔彩香盘为乾隆宫廷仿作明嘉万时期漆器的佳作，相同形制的万历剔彩龙纹香盘亦可见于两岸故宫收藏，典例如台北故宫所藏万历剔彩龙纹香盘，录于《和光剔采—故宫藏漆》第109页。
