1st century AD. A bronze merchant's stamp with rectangular face bearing engraved inscription in two lines: 'T.FVRI / CELSI.'; integral loop on the reverse with oval face engraved with an anchor. Similar specimen in Metropolitan Museum, accession number 30.11.2. 63.7 grams, 54mm (2"). From a private German collection, pre 2000. This stamp was presumably a property of a rich landlord and likely served as the official seal of his household used to mark provisions.
