Morris & Co (1875-1940), a mahogany, linen and silk embroidered fire screen Late 19th Century, apparently unsigned The mahogany frame with turned finials and openwork frieze designed by George Jack, the embroidered pattern possibly designed by May Morris and depicting stylised foliage in coloured silk, stem stitch on linen, the reverse with plain replacement hardboard back 114.5 cm high x 51.5 cm wide, 32.2 cm deep The left hand finial has lost the tip. There is a split and some gluing to the bottom right turned spindle support just above the foot and including the foot. Age separation to joins. The back of the screen has been restored with a plain replacement hardboard back. Old marks and knocks to edges in keeping with age, more heavy wear and scars to the arched supports. Embroidery: overall good condition but a little faded.
