Southeast Asia, 1st millennium AD. The coins were excavated in Myanmar, in what was formerly the territory of Champa, most of circular form and a few coins of rectangular or irregular shape, all of varying size and thickness, and with fine repoussé showing Vedic symbols, sun, star, and floral designs, Sanskrit characters, conches, bulls, mythical beasts, and deities. Provenance: Ex-Collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Condition: Very good condition with minor traces of age and wear as well as soil encrustations, some coins with verdigris. Weight: 612.0 g Dimensions: Diameter 3.8 cm (the largest) and 0.9 cm (the smallest)
