A pair of English brass and wrought iron fire dogs, 17th century, with brass disc finials descending to pierced supports with splayed legs, 41cm high, 15cm wide, 29cm deep The present andirons are loosely of Haddon Hall type. These fire dogs with elaborately engraved disc finials were much copied after their rediscovery in the 19th century, and their design appealed to makers associated with the Arts and Crafts Movements such as Alfred Bucknall. Similar examples to the present lot, also dated to the 17th century, were sold at Christie's Interiors, 8 April 2014, lot 347.
