A pair of George III cast silver square candlesticks, maker's mark script WA (unknown), London 1758, the detachable circular sconces with gadrooned rims, the reel capitals with straight gadrooned bands, multi knop stems, the bases with sunk centres and gadrooned rims, engraved with a crest, 24cm (9 1/2in) high, 1456g (46.8 oz) The crest for COTTON, DASHWOOD, LESLIE See Grimwade 8363 for this unidentified maker's mark. Condition Report: Both have a very slight wobble on a flat surface. One has a strip soldered into the base of the stem. Scuffs, scratches and pits from use on the pedestal foot of each. one has a very minor crease at the base of the stem. one sconce is slightly warped, the other has small dents on the underside coming through to the surface. The crests have some surface rubbing but are still clear. The hallmarks are clear and readable. Condition Report Disclaimer
