A set of twelve early Victorian silver agate handled dessert knives and forks by George Adams for Chawner & Co., London 1844, with foliate ferrules and part reeded handles, engraved with a crest, the knives 21cm (8 1/4in) long, in a mahogany case The crest for MARSTON Condition Report: Marks are generally clear and readable, but some are rubbed. Engraving is crisp. The tines on the forks are all good. Very little wear to the knife blades. Some minor play to the handles on five pieces. One agate knife handle is cracked right through and is broken at the junction of the mount. Two agate fork handles and one knife handle have minor surface chips. Two fork handles have surface reaching inclusions resulting in natural cracks and pits. The box is spilt and detached from the base, but could easily be glued back together.
