Cartier, a silver, gold and onyx mounted desk clock, perpetual calendar and weather station, import mark for London 1912, each of the four sides with a dial and a gold bezel, comprising: a clock, movement no. 2172, silvered dial, Roman numerals, skeleton hands; a thermometer in Fahrenheit; a barometer; and a perpetual calendar; with an onyx stem to a decagonal base, presentation engraved Ludwig. Alfred. Henry. P. W. Cushion from Lord Melchett with affection and appreciation of his loyal devoted service 1900 - 1945, 11.5cm (4 1/2in) high, with an associated leather travel case and card box Alfred Moritz Mond (1868 - 1930) was a British industrialist, financier and Liberal Member of Parliament from 1906 - 1910, and was raised to the peerage in 1928 as Baron Melchett. His son Henry (1898-1949) was a director in the family businesses, as well as being a Liberal Member of Parilament in the early 1920s. In 1929, having moved to the Conservative Party, Henry became the Conservative Member of Parliament for Liverpool Toxteth East from 1929 - 1930, when he was elevated to the House of Lords becoming the 2nd Baron Melchett. This Cartier desk weather station was given as personal gift by Henry Mond, the 2nd Baron Melchett, to his long time personal assistant P.W Cushion after 45 years service. The weaather station is by direct family decent from P.W. Cushion to the current vendor Condition Report: Import marks are clear Movement - 15 jewels, European Watch Co., 3 adjustments. The movement has been badly repaired. Balance cock missing. Ratchet wheel and clickspring in poor condition. Recommend the movement is replaced. Case - 11.5cm high overall, square section - 7cm, base 9cm wide Tarnishing to clock dial. Hands good. Screw missing to thermometer bezel. Door hinge good Light scratches to the case and stand. Engraving crisp. Stem very slightly bent The box and travel case are not Cartier. Comes with two winding keys, not signed and possibly associated Condition Report Disclaimer
