A William & Mary olivewood oyster veneered and holly crossbanded chest of drawers, circa 1690, the circular strung rectangular top with moulded edge, above two short and two long graduated drawers, on turned bun feet, 73cm high, 83cm wide, 56cm deep For a closely related chest of drawers see, Christie's, London, Important English Furniture, 22nd January 2019, Lot 96 (£10,000). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Of sympathetically cleaned/polished appearance. Some sections of replacement moulding. Evidence of old worm to back and underside. Feet later replaced. Later 18th century handles and locks. No key present. Neatly plugged holes to drawer fronts from previous fixtures It is likely this chest stood on a low stand originally. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
