† A Flemish ebonised and alabaster casket, 17th century, Malines, the hinged and moulded box inset with engraved panels and pilasters overall, with hidden drawers to each side, 17cm high, 31cm wide, 19cm deep The present casket, with its cleverly concealed hidden compartments, is typical of Flemish manufacture during the 17th century, particularly in Mechelen (Malines), which had been a widely known centre for alabaster sculpture since the 15th century. A casket of similar design to the present lot was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 30 November 2010, lot 353 (£3,500).
