An Italian sculpted white marble Annunciation Group, after Le Cassanelle at the Duomo di Carrara, probably Pisa, the two models of the Annunciate Virgin and the Angel Gabriel portrayed standing with attributes of a book and scroll respectively, 58cm high The present models take their inspiration from the large 14th century models of the Virgin and the Angel Gabriel at the baptistery of the Duomo in Carrara, known as Le Cassanelle. The graceful limbs and elongated lines are typical of the late Gothic style that flourished in Pisa during the 14th century. A similar Annunciation group to the Cassanelle by the influential sculptor Nino Pisano is in the church of Santa Caterina in Pisa.
