An Irish George II mahogany side table, circa 1750, the rectangular top with moulded edge, above a plain frieze, the carved and pierced apron incorporating floral acanthus scrolls, centred by a flowering basket motif, on acanthus carved tapering cabriole legs, terminating in claw on ball feet, 82cm high, 184cm wide, 76cm deep For a remarkably similar example of side table incorporating a central flowering basket motif to the frieze, see The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, Yale University Press, 2007, page 233, figure 117. For a table of related form and featuring similar foliate carving and acanthus collars to the legs see, Sotheby's, New York, Masterworks, 11th December 2014, lot 23 ($221,000). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. Some additional knocks and scuffs to feet and legs. To one end half of the central flower roundel is detached and lacking. Very slight opening between the two boards of the top. The front corners of the top with very neatly executed old repairs.
