A pair of Regency mahogany library steps, circa 1815, in the manner of Gillows, the three tooled leather inset steps, flanked by scroll terminals to the sides and surmounted by a scroll moulded gallery, on reeded turned tapering legs, 78cm high, 55cm wide, 74cm deep Provenance: Burrow Hall, Burrow with Burrow, Lancashire For a pair of steps attributed to Gillows, see Christie's London, The English Collector, 17th May 2017, Lot 160 (£13,750). Three pairs of steps were supplied to Wilbraham Egerton (1781-1856) to furnish Tatton Park, Cheshire in 1811 by Gillows of Lancaster (illustrated John Hardy, 'Gillows at Tatton Park', The Journal of the Furniture History Society, Leeds, 1970, pl. 11B).
