After Paul Comolera (French, 1818-1897), a patinated bronze model of a finch or a linnet, the bird suspended from a branch, diving towards a beetle crawling across the naturalistically modelled oval base, inscribed P. Comole ra and with initial B. to the maquette 13cm high, 12cm wide Provenance: British Private Collection Paul Comolera was a student of Francois Rude, and made his salon debut in 1846. He specialised in the depiction of birds with precision and accuracy, of which the present lot is a good example. Comolera also produced models of birds for Minton ceramics from the early 1870s.
