A beautiful restrung faience necklace comprising multi-coloured discoid and tubular beads as well as a beautiful Taweret amulet showing the goddess depicted as a pregnant with the head of a hippopotamus. Taweret, known as ‘The Great One’, was believed to be the goddess of childbirth and the protector of women and children. This amulet may have been worn by a pregnant woman to deflect evil spirits and to call forth Taweret’s protection. Good condition. Wearable Size: L:274mm / W:mm ; 8g; Provenance: Important London collection of Ancient art; formed in 1970s then passed by descent.
