A magnificent two-handled silver tray by Paul Storr, London, 1816. The tray, in its original oak presentation case, is richly engraved with the Royal coat of arms and presentation inscription, reading "The Gracious Gift of King William the Fourth 1835", and was presented by King William IV to the son of David Davies in 1835. It is likely that the tray was repurposed from silver in the Royal household and would have been part of the large number of silver items commissioned by George IV from Rundell Bridge and Rundell. David Davies was personal physician to both William IV and Queen Adelaide. Davies was later knighted by Queen Victoria. His son, William, was a first-class Cricketer at Oxford. He sadly lost his life at sea at the age of 42. Together with a framed copy of King William IV's death notice, signed by David Davies. L. of silver tray: 53.5 cm (21 in.) Dimensions of oak case: H. 11 cm (4 3/8 in.) W. 59 cm (23 1/4 in.) D. 38.5 cm (15 1/8 in.) Presented by King William IV (r: 1830-1837) and Queen Adelaide and have been passed down from generation to generation through the family of the original recipient.
