Born in Dublin in 1935, Sean McSweeney is regarded as one of the leading 20th century Irish artists. Despite no professional training McSweeney immersed himself in art from a young age, learning from his father who was a professional artist and also by visiting the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin. In the 1960s, McSweeney began exhibiting regularly at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and the Oireachtas. McSweeney has been represented by Dawson Gallery in Dublin and a retrospective was held by the Galway Arts Festival, a great accolade.
