A George IV mahogany cheval mirror, circa 1825, attributed to Gillows, 181cm high, 67cm wide, 75cm deep Provenance: Purchased L Lowenthal, 4 St James' London, 1958 For a closely related design of mirror see, Christie's, New York, House Sale, 5th-6th February 2002, Lot 453 ($8,812). A mirror of similar form was made by Gillows for Lord Montgomerie of Coilsfield Hose, Ayrshire in 1807. See Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, Volume II, Antique Collectors Club, 2008, page 88, plate 634. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Old glue and dowel repair made to top of one upright with filler used to help disguise. Handles with some knocks and dents. Mirror plate is likely original and has the expected depletion and some grey spots. Some sections of veneer re-stuck to edge of swing plate. Condition Report Disclaimer
