中国的嵌错工艺自夏商周时期至今由来已久，至于清代，除了在传统青铜器上进行嵌错之外，衍生出了在紫檀家具上装饰嵌银丝的工艺样式。在紫檀木中的嵌错，一方面在深色器物上增加了图案的高光点，对比凸显出器物的高贵属性；另一方面，增强了紫檀器物的伸缩性与延展性，无形中增加了器物自身寿命，是一种兼具实用与美观的高超技艺。此件紫檀嵌银丝小几，器形端庄大方，小中见大，平肩束腰，四周牙板均饰有清代典型的镂空拐子龙纹饰，其间并嵌错有兽面、回字、如意纹饰，足部托泥，线条挺拔，刚柔并济，是一件典型的清宫廷样式器物。
