In the upper portion, soft clouds lead the viewer's eye into the distant peaks, while the plunging waterfall splashes into an enveloping mist before flowing gently into the foreground river. Huang uses axe-cut strokes to define the rocky cliff cleaved by the waterfall, and hemp-fiber strokes to give volume to the foreground rocks.
