AFTER JEAN JULES SALMSON (FRENCH 1823-1902), A PAIR OF ORIENTALIST BRONZES 'LA PORTEUSE' AND 'LE GUERRIER ARABE' CIRCA 1890 Each signed 'SALMSON' the male figure 55cms high, the female figure 53cms Aside from his larger scale monuments at L'Opera and Les Tuileries, Salmson's best know work is, perhaps, this pair of Orientalist figures. Both models are illustrated in H Berman 'Bronzes Sculptors & Founders' Abage Encyclopedia Chicago 1980, where he details the female figure as being conceived in 1880 and the male figure in 1875.
