A George III silver shaped oval centrepiece or epergne by Emick Romer, London 1772, the central basket with a beaded rim and foliage to the angles, engraved with an armorial and crest, the conical base with a cast flowering foliate apron, the four detachable scroll arms with circular baskets, within collets and on swing handles, engraved with a differing armorial and crest, 38cm (15in) high, 61cm (24in) wide, 2242g (72 oz) The first arms: vert a chevron gules between three stags trippant (?) - an escutcheon of pretence: ermine, on a fess embattled argent three escallops argent (Browne), the crest: a demi stag rampant. It may be the arms of someone of the ROBINSON family marrying an heiress of the BROWNE family. The second arms: argent, a chevron between three fireballs gules (Balle), the crest: an arm holding a fireball proper (Balle). The second arms are not an issue and are the arms of the BALLE family of Mamhead, Devon. Condition Report: With two floral pegs to two legs, the other two legs missing the pegs.
