After John Edward Carew (Irish, 1782-1868) A Composition Plaque Depicting the Death of Admiral Lord Nelson, early 20th century Incorporating the motto 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY,' after the plaque made for Nelson's column in Trafalger Square, London, presented in a giltwood frame. Freeman’s, Philadelphia, September 25, 2013, lot 82. Acquired directly from the above sale. Private Collection, Long Island, New York. Condition report: Minor surface wear, no notable losses to scene. Frame separating, most prominently in the lower corners; losses to gesso and gilt on frame face, from nails securing the plaque into the frame from the reverse. Text plaque inset on plaque reverse with an irregular loss to the center of the text panel. Panel not inspected outside of frame.
