A fine gold-lacquer suzuribako (box for writing utensils) with en-suite cover 17th/18th century Of rectangular form with rounded bevelled edges, bearing a nashiji ground and richly lacquered on the cover and interior with Chinese lake scenes in takamaki-e with details of kirikane and e-nashiji, the edges with asa-no-ha; fitted with a suzuri and lozenge-shaped mizuire inlaid with kiku on water, unsigned; with fitted box. 4.7 cm x 24.1cm x 20.6cm (1 7/8in x 9½in x 8 7/8in).
