A lacquer kobako (small box) with en-suite cover By Taikai Tairei (1880-1971), 20th century The roiro lacquer cover decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with plum blossoms and bamboo growing on an irregular-shaped mound, with subtle details inlaid in e-nashiji and shell, the inside of the cover simply lacquered in gold and slight-red hiramaki-e with a diagonal formation of stylised cranes; the bottom and sides rendered in seido-nuri in Zeshin style, with the interior decorated with overlapping gold and silver lacquer papers; signed in gold lacquer Tairei, with tomobako signed and titled by the artist, Horai kobako, Tairei saku with a seal Tairei. 3.2cm x 10.1cm x 7.6cm (1¼in x 4in x 3in).
