Maurice Romberg de Vaucorbeil (1861-1943), Belgian/French Oriental painter, studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1883-1886 and went to Morocco as early as 1887 or 1888, where he lived first in Tétouan and later in Meknès, eventually becoming the first European painter to settle in Marrakech.
