Jack Merriott (British 1901-1968) - A 20th Century English watercolour on paper painting depicting a landscape scene - likely Dartmoor. Signed. Framed and glazed. Measures approx; 41cm x 54cm. Merriott was Educated at Greenwich Central School. Studied at Croydon School of Art and at St. Martins School of Art. Lectured in Royal Army Education Corps (1945-6). President of Wapping Group of artists 1947-60. Lived at Shirley in Surrey, Storrington, Sussex and later at Polperro, Cornwall. Illustrated some of the 'Beautiful Britain' series of books by Blackies. Lectured widely on watercolour and produced the 'Pitman Guide to Watercolour' and wrote 'Discovering Watercolour'. Was vice president of R.I. and achieved a prolific output of artwork for the railways. Produced posters for British Rail and the Post Office
