The Property of a Lady 女士藏品 TWO FAMILLE ROSE 'MANDARIN PATTERN' TANKARDS, A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE DISHES AND A BLUE AND WHITE SOFT-PASTE 'BOYS' GINGER JAR Qianlong and later The tankards, one depicting ladies and children within a balustraded garden setting, the S-shaped handle with dragon head terminal, the other with a European landscape with castle, and handle simulating bamboo, the larger 13cm (5in) high; the pair of famille rose dishes, Qianlong seal marks, brightly enamelled with a large blooming lotus in the centre, surrounded by floral scrolls issuing from leafy ruyi-head border, 30cm (11 7/8in) diam.; the blue and white soft-paste 'boys' ginger jar, Kangxi six-character mark, painted on the body with a multitude of boys at play on a crackled cream-glazed ground, with hongmu cover, 13cm (5 1/8in) high. As the export trade increased, so did the demand from Europe for familiar, utilitarian forms. European forms such as mugs, ewers, tazze, and candlesticks were unknown in China, so models were sent to the Chinese potteries to be copied.
