A mid-19th century Belgian silver coffee pot, Brussels circa 1840 by Auguste Bonnevie (reg. 16th Jan 1839, d. 1870) Of globular form with a tall neck leading to a short, curved spout opposite an ebonised C scroll handle with acanthus base junction and circular rosette upper junction. The hinged domed surmounted by a detachable reeded ebonised knop finial. Engraved to the side with a crest of an eagle’s head erased ducally crowned. Marked underneath with makers mark, B with a hammer, and second standard mark (833 standard used 1832-69), Minerva lacking. Height – 22.4 cm / 8.8 inches Weight – 610 grams / 19.61 ozt Auguste Bonnevie, who was born Brussels on 20 Feb 1816 and registered his mark there on 16 Jan 1839. In December 1851 he moved to Schaerbeek, where he was listed until 1870 (when he presumably died). He specialised in the production of flatware; his son Emile Adolphe was also a silversmith.
