Limited edition, No. 407 of 1500 copies, (Nos. 300-500 have been reserved for the friends of George Rainbird Ltd. & Rainbird, Maclean Limited, Christmas, 1957). single volume, 4to., (260 x 180mm), Mansell's of London decorative cloth, red gilt-lettered label to spine, red top, title page lettering, spine lettering, and chapter numbers engraved by John Woodcock, inscribed and dated by George Rainbird in blue ink to front free e/p., 'To Francis Sitwell / with all good wishes / from George Rainbird / Dec. 1957', portrait frontispiece printed direct from a plate lithographed by the author, 8 full-page illustrations reproduced by photo.-litho offset from the author's drawings, and The Old Strife at 'Plants' (a discarded chapter of the Horse's Mouth), printed at the Curwen Press, London, on Grosvenor Chater's Chariot white offset, 333pp, within a glassine wrapper and contained in a matching Mansell's of London decorative cloth slipcase. The third novel in the author's trilogy first published 1944; Francis Trajan Sacheverell Sitwell (1935 - 2004) was the second son of Sir Sacheverell Sitwell, the youngest of the literary trio. Francis, the nephew and godson of Dame Edith Sitwell was named her literary executor following her death in 1964.Provenance: The Sitwell Family Library, Weston Hall.
