题识：大丰新建制。但觉平生湖海，醉吟风月。钤印：朱新建印、大丰 此幅描绘羽毛黑白相间的栖鸟，笔墨虚实相生，鸟的眼睛则构成了“白眼向人”的点睛之笔。题识语出辛弃疾《水调歌头·我饮不须劝》“……但觉平生湖海，除了醉吟风月，此外百无功”。“醉吟风月”是朱新建的自嘲说法，也是其给人的表面印象，但他本身并不在意，对于笔墨价值和文人生活的追求才是终其一生的理想，就像画中的鸟儿，纵有千般不解，我自遗世独立。
