Follower of CLAUDE MICHEL CLODION, (France, 1738-1814). "Sacrifice to Bacchus", late 19th century. High relief in cast and patinated bronze. Measurements: 20 x 48 cm . This relief was made following the models and aesthetics of the rococo sculptor Clodion (1738-1814). In Paris, during the 18th century, Clodion was trained in the production of small-scale works inspired by themes related to ancient sculpture. Under this premise, he began the creation of statuettes of nymphs, fauns, satyrs and bacchantes, represented in a bucolic environment. In this high relief, the god of wine, Bacchus, is represented by a sculpture located in the center of the scene. In front of it, a group of satyrs and nymphs are offering a goat in sacrifice. The scene is completely decorated by mythological characters carrying baskets with fruits, vine branches, as well as satyrs playing a horn. Dimensions 20 x 48 cm .
