Spanish school of the XVII century. "Christ". Carved and polychrome wood. With potencies and silver finials. Measurements: 30 x 30 cm (Christ); 78 x 46 cm (total cross). Round carving made of carved and polychrome wood, with some silver elements, such as the crown of thorns, the base with the healing serpent and the ends of the cross. This piece stands out for the naturalism and detail of its workmanship, where the author has demonstrated a polished technique that can be seen in the capture of the anatomy, especially the fingers and torso. It is a work of devotional character that includes the representation of a crucifixion, reason why it has been captured with great dramatism, seeking to convey to the faithful the suffering of Christ, his physical pain, through the bloody depiction of his wounds. Likewise, the constitution of Christ transmits a famished sensation of weakness, which is reinforced by the extremely marked and elongated dimensions of his arms and the rest of his anatomy. The polychromy seeks naturalism in the flesh tones, and at the same time emphasizes the blood flowing from the wounds in this dramatic and naturalistic sense. Dimensions 30 x 30 cm (Christ); 78 x 46 cm (total cross).
