Spanish school of the sixteenth century. Follower of RAFAEL DE SANZIO (Urbino, Italy, 1483 - Rome, 1520); XVIII century. "Virgin of the Rose". Oil on pine board. With ribbons. Frame following Italian models of the sixteenth century. With faults in the polychrome. The painting has repainting and faults. With restorations. Measurements: 104 x 78,5 cm; 146,5 x 112,5 cm (frame). The present work closely follows the oil painting entitled "Virgin of the Rose" or "Holy Family with St. Johnny" by Raphael Sanzio around 1520, currently preserved in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, from the royal collections and documented in Spain in the seventeenth century. In the center of the composition, Mary appears, seated, with the naked Child Jesus in her arms; next to her appears St. John, holding a small handkerchief to Christ. In the left corner is Saint Joseph contemplating the scene. Most probably, the present work was copied from the original when it was in the Escorial. Dimensions 104 x 78,5 cm; 146,5 x 112,5 cm (frame).
