Translation provided by Youdao
8th-11th century AD. A small iron axe with a narrow blade and a hammer extension to the rear, round socket. See Nicolle, D., Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era, 1050-1350 AD, volume II, London, 1999, pp.290ff, figs.752-753. 256 grams, 18.5cm (7 1/4"). Property of a London gallery; previously from a private British collection; formerly acquired from a European gentleman; acquired in the 1990s and earlier. War-axes were not common in Central Asian grave sites, but some have been found and show an interesting combination of a narrow blade on one side and a mace-like war-hammer on the other. Condition Report Fair condition, cleaned and conserved.
